We can use Gene to make our digimon gain different passive abilities

There are 4 differents genes: Life (Red), Attack (Green), Defense (Yellow) and Special (Blue).

We can combine them according to its cathegory to get a the same cathegory, this way will only increase its level.

We also can mix of the same cathegory but different effect to get a random of one of the mix and also its level is increased.

And the one last way of mixing is between cathegories.

Remember there are genes with 2 and 3 spaces, we need to combine them according to their spaces they need in our digimon or it won't allow us to combine them.
